Practice Japanese conversation, corrected in English.
For fans of Japanese film, anime and books, travellers and students who know some kana and kanji but rarely get to talk. Talk about ordinary things; every slip is explained in one plain English sentence.
Five mistakes almost every Japanese learner makes
These are the corrections Parlenta gives most often. Each one comes with a single English sentence, not a grammar lecture.
| Topic | You write | Correct | Why, in one line |
|---|---|---|---|
| に or で | 図書館で行きました | 図書館に行きました | The destination of 行く takes に; で marks where an action happens. |
| 好き + が | 私は寿司を好きです | 私は寿司が好きです | The thing you like takes が: 寿司が好きです. |
| Counters | 本を三ください | 本を三冊ください | Counting things needs a counter: books use 冊. |
| Past of い-adjectives | 楽しいでした | 楽しかったです | い-adjectives take the past ending -かった: 楽しかったです. |
| Before 時 | 行きます時 | 行く時 | Before 時, use the plain form of the verb: 行く時. |

Japanese questions
Which Japanese?
Standard Japanese (標準語). Regional words are understood, but corrections follow the standard.
Do I need to read kana and kanji?
Reading kana helps, since the conversation is written in Japanese. To write, type romaji and get kana; for kanji, use your system’s input.
What level do I need?
Any. You choose where to start, and Parlenta adjusts as it sees how you write.
